This is a 100% natural product, sold by bulk - therefore there is no label or EAN on its package (made of plastic). The average bean weights about 5gr., but that's only an estimate. The beans are of varied dimensions and weight, so how many beans you will get in a 500gr. purchase will vary.

Our Brazilian Vanilla Bourbon Beans are from Bahia, 100% natural. Although not certificated due to bureaucracy challenges, they are local farmers and their production is FREE of agro-toxics, conservatives or other types of chemicals. The Vanilla's shelf life is indeterminate, if properly stored in a dry fresh space, inside a clean well closed glass jar, between 20 and 23 Celsius, and protected from light. But we advise to consume in around 6 months.

The Vanilla Planifolia or Fragans (also known as the Mexican type or Bourbon) has its origins traced to Mexico. Nowadays the largest producer in the world is Madagascar, in Africa. It took Brazilians a while to realize that both climate and soil attributes in Bahia's south region (a Brazilian State) are very similar to those in Madagascar. At LUMI Brasil we are always in search of new haute cuisine treasures, and our market philosophy is to prioritize the Brazilian producer whenever possible. We were very pleased to discover the actual black gold being cultivated in Brazil, and following the international export standard we work with.

Cooking with Vanilla Bourbon Beans

To use the beans you will need to open one with the tip of a knife. Do it from the long side, and then rasp the seeds up to down from both sides of the bean. These seeds are to be used in your recipe, and you can also use the shell depending on the recipe (sauces, creams). Either way, do not discard the shell: use them in other preparations, such as vanilla sugar.
