The pollen is the flower’s masculine gamete, indispensable for the plants reproduction process. To the bees, it represents the only source of natural protein they consume, and it’s also the main source of vitamins and minerals in their diet. The bee coalesces the pollen with its saliva (rich in enzymes), so it can be fixed in its hind paws to be transported all the way to the hive.
