Baru Nuts

Baru (Dipteryx alata Vog.) is the fruit of a tree. Its flavor is delicate and unique. Our suppliers only collect the Baru nuts from August to September, when the nuts naturally fall from their host tree. Our agroextractivists are fully aware of the sustainable concept of their production, without which an entire ecosystem would be disturbed. They also leave part of the fallen fruits to the animals, because as they eat Baru nuts, its seeds are spread, balancing the life system even further. So instead of following a temptation to grab as much Baru nuts as they could carry, these people actually created an amazing ecologic way of living, that is providing income to former poor families from this part of Brazil: the only place where Baru nuts trees are found, the Cerrado.
